AtlantaPHP “100th Monthiversary” Celebration

We’re proud to announce that we’re celebrating our “100th Monthiversary” – our 100th monthly meeting – on Thursday, September 6th from 6pm to 9pm! We’re planning a cookout with plenty of social time and will have Kevin Roberts presenting Pecha-Kucha style on the eight and a half year history of our group followed by Elizabeth Naramore as the featured speaker presenting on “Technical Debt”. We’ll also have a number of special guests from the greater PHP community, including group founder Ben Ramsey, Cal Evans, and others.

NOTE: We’re starting an hour earlier than our usual meetings.

PRESENTATION: Technical Debt

Presentation by: Elizabeth Naramore, EngineYard

Technical debt is something that most project teams or independent developers have to deal with – we take shortcuts to push out releases, deadlines need to be met, quick fixes slowly become the standard. In this talk, Elizabeth will discuss what technical debt is, when it is acceptable and when it isn’t, and strategies for effectively managing it, both on an independent and team level.

About Elizabeth: Formerly the Community Manager for Sourceforge.net, Elizabeth (@ElizabethN) is currently the PHP Community Manager for Engine Yard. In addition, she is President and Co-Founder of PHPWomen.org, and an active member of the PHP Community and her local PHP User Group (OINK-PUG). She has published several titles with Wrox/Wiley, speaks at conferences around the world, and blogs at naramore.net.

Giveaways: Too many to count, but includes many things such as IDE licenses, books, gift cards, and the grand prize – a Nexus 7 tablet!

When: Thursday, September 6, 2012 — 6pm-9pm
