The “Big 3” of Open Source CMS systems are WordPress, Joomla and Drupal. There are a half-dozen local WordPress groups in town, and a lot of Drupal developers, but Joomla’s been relatively unknown in these parts. In this talk, we’ll learn more about Joomla, it’s origins, organization, ecosystem, who uses it, and where it’s going. We’ll even take a look “under the hood” at the organization of the code. We’ll talk about the good parts, the bad parts, and who Joomla is best for.

About Brent: Brent Laminack has been using PHP since PHP 4 was introduced, and been using Joomla for its entire 10-year lifespan. He’s the organizer of the Joomla User Group Atlanta and former leader of the Atlanta Unix Users’ Group. He’s a long-time member of AtlantaPHP and attends when time and tide allow. He tries to help the local Open Source community keep up with itself by running OSSAtlanta.org. He teaches classes at Emory Continuing Education and Gwinnett Tech. He lives way the heck up in Winder, which is closer than Suches where he used to live.
